Please pass the pie!
Happy Thanksgiving from WayForth
After the turkey is done and the mashed potatoes are finished, it’s time for dessert! And when it’s Thanksgiving, that generally means pie. While the traditional sweet for this November holiday is pumpkin pie, pecan and apple come in a close second.
According to a GE Appliances survey of 1,550 Americans, the winner of the favorite pie at Thanksgiving seems to be about where you live.
- New England states all the way south to Pennsylvania choose apple pie as their beloved Thanksgiving dessert.
- The East South Central states — which are Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee — like apple pie and pecan pie almost equally as their number one choice.
- The West South Central states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas look to a pecan pie to satisfy their sweet tooth after their Thanksgiving meal.
- And, the rest of the U.S. chose pumpkin pie, which is no surprise to anyone who has attended a Thanksgiving feast.

Try a different flavor this year
Some people offer a mix of pies for their table including such specialties as sweet potato pie, cherry pie or even peach cranberry pie. Others get more creative and try something that’s not a pie like an apple crumble or a fruit galette. Or, start a tradition of serving your family’s favorite chocolate silk pie or coconut cream pie for a change of pace.
