Research, treatments and awareness are within our reach

June 21, the day on the calendar with the most daylight hours, is a special day for the team at WayForth. As a partner with the Alzheimer’s Association, we know that “The Day with Most Light is the Day We Fight®.” We are fighting the darkness of Alzheimer’s disease with efforts all over the U.S. and around the world to raise awareness and funds during The Longest Day, one of the Alzheimer’s Association signature events.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s disease is an epidemic that kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. Per the Association, more than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and it’s estimated that Alzheimer’s and other dementias will cost the United States $345 billion. By 2050, these costs are expected to reach nearly $1 trillion.

But there is hope in the form of research, advances in care and support. As a fundraiser, The Longest Day brings awareness and donations so that the Association can share online education programs, assist with support groups and a 24/7 helpline as well as fund research to help find treatment, prevention and a cure some day for Alzheimer’s disease.

Design your own fundraiser

The good news is that anyone can support The Longest Day. By wearing purple and talking to friends, colleagues and family about the effects of Alzheimer’s and other dementia diseases, you can help spread awareness.

You can also design your own fundraiser and collect donations for the Alzheimer’s Association whether your idea is a friendly family competition or a workplace challenge. At WayForth, we are proud partners of the Alzheimer’s Association and teams from around our offices will be supporting efforts large and small on The Longest Day.

Have fun while making a difference on The Longest Day! Get creative and turn any activity, from sports challenges to bake sales, into a fundraising opportunity. Visit the Alzheimer’s Association website for helpful ideas and ways to involve your friends. We have favorites you won’t want to miss:

  • Start a board game tournament with an entry fee that goes to The Longest Day
  • Organize a golf or bowling challenge at your local course or bowling alley
  • Create a music or choral concert with small admission fee
  • Try a walk-a-thon for families, kids and even dogs

The possibilities are endless. The point is to have fun while you spread awareness of this disease and raise  funds to help efforts to end Alzheimer’s and other dementia diseases. And you don’t have to do your event or fundraising on June 21. Any day will do!

Where do the dollars go?

Every dollar raised during The Longest Day will make a difference. Money goes to help fund such efforts as:

  • Online message boards
  • In-person and virtual support groups
  • A 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900)
  • Investments in global research and projects to advance treatment and  find a cure
  • Work toward advancements such as the first new diagnostic guidelines for Alzheimer’s
  • Passage of legislation connected to Alzheimer’s patients, caretakers and government research and funding
  • Recruitment of advocates that can be of help at every level of government
